Is Canada's Skilled Worker Selecton System Broken? - Visa Scene Episode 4
Well sort of...in this episode of the Visa Scene we speak to Richard Kurland, Editor and Chief of Lexbase which reported that the processing times posted to the Canadian Governments Immigration's website are misleading at best.

In fact, when compared to the Government of Canada's own recently announced processing targets the actual time could be much longer...in one case the processing time posted for the Canadian Embassy in Port Au Prince Haiti listed on the website states that 80% of cases are processed in 17 months, Lexbase however calculates the actual time to be more like 23.9 years...yes we said years....

So whats up?

Richard Kurland, Immigration Lawyer and self described Immigration Policy Analyst helps us understand the challenges faced by the Canadian Immigration System.

Is Canada no longer a viable choice for a prospective skilled immigrants?

Well no, luckily immigrants have options, Richard and John touch on other paths to immigrate to Canada and discuss possible future immigration programs that may be coming our way.

Whether you are an immigrant or  immigration professional, this podcast is for you.

We hope you enjoy.....

John & Tina

Snowbound - Visa Scene Episode 3
Snowbound - Better late then Never

Well Tina and I were knocked off the air by a snowstorm that caused a six day power failure...can you say internet withdrawal. In any case we survived and have now finished episode three of the Visa Scene.

We apologize to our listeners for the delay but hopefully you will enjoy this weeks show.

This week we talk about four developments on the Canadian Immigration Scene.

First a private members bill was introduced to the House of Commons by NDP MP Peggy Nash that would if passed, allow Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents the once in a lifetime ability to sponsor a family member outside of the traditional definition of the Family Class to Canada as an Immigrant.

Our second topic is a follow up to a story discussed in our first episode, the fast tracking program for workers announced by Minister Solberg has now been expanded to the Province of Ontario. But not so fast, many of the occupations listed Ontario Governments list require licensing.

A major study released this week has found that immigrant youth measure up to their Canadian-born counterparts. In fact, Immigrant youth in some cases are doing as well or better then thier non immigrant peers.

Finally the Canadian Council of Refugees cries foul, and demands that Canada remove the United States from it's Safe Third Country list.

We hope you enjoy Episode Three.....

The Minister of Citizenship and Immigration Monte Solberg announced the introduction of a new program to reduce the red tape for Canadian employers who wish to hire foreign workers, but if you are intending to head to a province other then Ontario or Quebec you are out of luck. Immigration Tales
Hey again

From time time we come across other podcasters who are doing interesting things with the subject of immigration. We stumbled upon one such podcast during a recent trip to the Portable and Digital Media Exposition in Ontario California.

While in Ontario we met up with Victor Cajiao who produces a podcast called Immigration Tales.  Victor, an immigrant himself believes that every immigrant has a story, and on his podcast he interviews guests who tell their immigration story.

We highly recommend Victors podcast.

You can have a listen by visiting http://www.immigrationtales.com

Enjoy

First Visa Scene in the Can
Our first Podcast (or is that netcast?)

Well everyone it looks as if we finally have come to the point where the Visa Scene is up an running. We are still trying to figure out many of the little technical details but slowy but surely we are working through many of them. Given that this is a labor of love rather then an attempt to commercialize immigration services, we are going to ask for listeners patience while we experiement with better ways to deliver our weekly content to you.

We would be thrilled to receive your comments and suggestions, both good and bad, so that we can improve our offering.

Finally it is our intent that this podcast be free for our listeners. It is our way of having a dialog with  you on Immigration news, policy, law and politics.

If you have any comments please leave them on our blog or forward them to us at talkback@visapost.com.

Chow for now
